The Comments On The Ecological Holism

The western ecological holism is one kind of ideology of the modern western environmental movement .If giving a definition of the thought, I think western ecological holism is a doctrine of non-human center, emerging in natural environmental protection movements, and basing the whole ecosystem on value. Ecological holism combines modern ecology as a kind of culture against the mainstream, making every effort to set up the new relation between people and ecological environment, becoming the theory tool of the increasingly important environmental protection movement.Ecological holism is being substantiated and improved constantly. Although the idea is non-mainstream one in the western philosophy, it has also caused the extensive interests of disciplines such as philosophy, economics, political science, law science, sociology, anthropology, ethics, etc. expressing reviews to environmental theory of different discipline fields. This paper aims at carrying on analysis and research from the following three respects in terms of philosophy and ethics: First, introducing the development of ecological holism, as the background of the whole paper. This part will introduce the development course of this theory and definite some concepts;Second, analyzing the main thoughts of ecological holism, probing into the contents of people and natural relation, especially to Aldo Leopold's " ethics of earth ", Holmes Ralston III's "natural value theory" and Arne Ness' "deep ecology" deeply and carefully explaining, then excavate three theories in paying close attention to ground characteristics shown under the ecological environment;Third, deeply thinking ecological holism : reviewing the origins of it ,analyzing the relation between the theory and the thought of sustainable development, doing research on the theory's completion and the acceptability for the developing countries.Finally, it is worth putting out, ecological holism is a very important strength in western environmental movements. It is one of the most exciting theories in contemporary ecological philosophy and ecological ethics, although ecological holism faces a lot of theoretical and practical difficulty. However, it is the necessary course that every developing theoretical system must go through .The defects cannot obscure the virtues, ecological holism has shown some rational modern environmental value, worth our efforts to further analyze and discuss.
