Jute fiber is a natural cellulose fiber with excellent properties,which make it one of the most popular material for fabrics.However,the jute fiber at present can only be fabricated into low-grade textiles,such as sacks,tarares,and decorative cloth,for their poor spinnability due to their coarser and harder characteristics.Furthermore,the exitting spinning technology also restricts the spinable jute yarns into a limited counts. Therefore,the pretreatment on refined jute fiber before spinning and the spinning technology are emphatically discussed in this paper. Furthermore,jute fabrics are also fabricated and analysied.The pretreament on refined jute fibers are firstly studied.The main processing parameters,additives concentration,processing temperature and time,are experimentally researched.Smooth agent 25g/L,softening agent 25g/L,penetrating agent 20g/L,vegetable oil 20g/L,and processing time of 90 min at 90℃are recommended to be the optimum parameters. And the jute fibers pretreated with the optimum parameters have softness improved by 40%,both dynamic and static friction coefficient reduced by 25%.Obviously,the spinnability of refined jute fiber is significantly modified.The spinning processings,especially the processing of opening, carding,drawing,roving,and spinning,are studied and designed.With the optimized processings,two kinds of jute/cotton blended yarns with proportion of 30/70,55/45 and linear density of 18.2 tex and 36.4 tex, respectively,are successfully spinned.In addition,breaking strength of the two yarns are especially improved to 9.6 cN/tex and 5.6 cN/tex by optimizing twist factors in spinning processing.Weibull theory is used to investigated the tensile properties of jute/cotton blended yarns in this paper.Comparison with experimental results shows that Weibull model predicts an accuracy of more than 92%, indicating that it can predicte the tensile property of jute/cotton yarn accurately.This study also provid avilable approaches to improve the properties of yarns and the efficience of property testing.Regarding of improving properties of yams,it is essentially important to reduce nips; and of improving the efficience of property testing,it is obvious that the breaking strength of yarns at 500 mm gauge can be accurately predicted by their strength at 100 mm gauge,which also save 80%on the amount of yarns.Moreover,the properties of jute fabrics are also researched. Expetimental results show that the fabrics of J55/C45×J55/C45 and J30/C70×J30/C70 can achieve moisture regain increased by 1.5 and 1.4 times,wicking rate increased by 1.8 and 1.3 times,and air permeability increased by 1.6 and 1.5 times than pure cotton fabrics,which all indicate that jute fabrics are more comfortable than pure cotton fabrics.
