The height control system is an important component of numerical control flame cutter which is an important processing machine in manufacturing industry. The height control system can adjust height automatically or manually according to the given height in order to ensure that the height between cutting torch and plate keeps constant, improving the accuracy and quality of processing. Therefore, it is of significance in study of the height control system in numerical control cutter.This paper mainly explores configuration methods and practice of the height control system of flame cutter. Based on the completion of the basic control functions of the height control system, this paper discusses a method to implement the control system hardware port control functions configure freely. Port configure freely is aiming at the customized application and maintenance of the height control system, but in most cases the control system we designed has the fixed definition of port functions with no variability and has limitations in the maintenance. We proposed port configure freely that is the customer can freely define the port function. The hardware port of the control panel is not fixed, instead, it could be defined freely as the user like in the application of the height control system. The free-configured of the port make it flexible so that could meet the user's different demands, besides, they could transfer the signal into other interface when some of them lose control, which makes it more convenient to maintain the product and reduce the resource loss both in finance and time. A modular design methodology is applied in this system with various functional independence subroutines making up a complete control system software. The customer can transmit the configuration information to the control system through the user interface and when the control system received configuration information, it can re-configure the port function.This paper first discussed the composition, working principle and design of control panel about the height control system of flame cutter. Followed by combined with the functional requirements about it, we proposed the necessity and feasibility of port configuration and introduced all the aspects and elements about realization of port configure freely, and developed a feasible method of port configuration, the configuration process is simple, user convenience. Finally, the specific examples is exhibited to introduce the steps to achieve port configure freely and specific process.The commissioning results show that the height control system of flame cutter designed has better dynamic performance, it achieved auto-adjustment and has reliability and stability. The configuration method we discussed can implement the function of port configure freely of the height control system.
