Smilax china L., named as Jin Gang Teng, is a perennial defoliation liana of Smilax china L. of Liliaceae. The dry rhizomex can relieve sickness wet and disintoxication and so on. The clinical researches showed that it is effective in therapy for pelvic inflammatory and chronic pelvic inflammatory.The traditional technics application in the exiting preparation which is general water extracting following ethanol deposition has several shortcomings, such as low effective component yield, high percent impurity in the product, a waste of medicinal materials as well as high dose for patient. Smilax china L., which was widely used in treatment of many diseases, has great potential to develop new drugs. Therefore, in order to improving curative effect, decrease dose for patient, saving medicinal materials as well as establishing bedrock of new drug development, advanced technics of extracting following purification should be applied in the research of effective parts of Smilax china L. Following work had been done:1. A high performance liquid chromatographic method and a Column Chromatography - Spectrophotometric method was founded for two single flavonoids and total flavonoids in Smilax china L., respectively.2. Studied pretreatment methods which influence extracting of effective ingredients. Orthogonal design was used to optimize the better extract conditions.3. In extractant which wad obtained by macroporous resin purification technology, the content of saponins and flavonoids was more than 50%. A series experiment showed that the feasibility and stability of the purification tichnics was high.4. We investigated the anti-inflammatory and antinociceptive of effective parts (TSFS) of Smilax china L.. The results showed effective range was 12.5~50 g·kg-1. Within this range, drugs can significantly decrease ear edema from xylene, rat paw edema from carrageenan and writhing number caused by pain from acetic acid and so on. That shows saponins and flavonoids of Smilax china L. ware the effective part for anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects in their group. In addition, the mechanism of its anti-inflammatory was studied. The results showed that TSFS could not only reduce content of PGE2 and MDA, but also inhibit greatly NO biosynthesis in the local inflammatory tissues and serum. It suggested that the anti-inflammatory mechanism of TSFS may be related with inhibiting PGE2 and NO biosynthesis as well as inflammatory lipid peroxidation product formation.
