Hoist Tractor is kind of operation equipment that can be used to exclude failure, adjust parameters, and resume normal production in oil wells. Derrick is one of the major components in Hoist Tractor to install lifting machines and tools, like Cranes, opening vehicles, and large hooks. Derrick bears drilling, casing and other operations loads, and provides the height and the space for drilling and tube column storage. It is telescopic mast-shaped, typically beam structure, and has complicated loading and working conditions. Analysis of static intensity and stability is an important process in derrick design and check-up. The traditional calculation methods are complicated with lengthy time and errors. This paper, by the usage of large general-purpose finite element software ANSYS, analyses the static strength and the stability of the derrick. It elaborates how to build the calculation model of finite element, including the set up of calculation modeling in ANSYS, and determining initial conditions of the loads and restrictions. Finite element static analysis is applied in different derrick status: lifting, drilling, full triples and no hock loading, by the methods of loading, restrictions, splitting, analysis and calculation to the models. It checks the derrick static strength requirements through images or data lists after finite element analysis. It verifies the derrick stability through finite element analysis, and has made the optimized improvement to the weak main working points.By calculating the intensity and stability of derrick, this paper provides certain degree for safety assessment, improves the derrick design standards, shortens the manufacturing cycle, and provides reliable basis for the calculation. Finite element method is accurate, which can simplify the calculation, save manpower and resources , and speed up the process for new products research and development. The computation results can be used to optimize the products- it can cut costs if proper product line is selected.
