The oil derrick is one of the most important parts in the oil rig. As the structure damage, the load capacity of the in-service oil derrick is decreased, which effects the oil production greatly. It is the most important problem to build a system which can provide the load capacity evaluation. In the paper, the load analysis and calculation are done by the knowledge of the oil derrick and the drilling process. The evaluation theories of the load capacity for the oil derrick are set forth.Based on the experiment similarity theory, the similarity model of the JJ160/41-K oil derrick is designed and manufactured. In the lab, the static and dynamic load experiments are completed under the simulated drilling conditions. The result of the load capacity for the model is got by the theories of the intensity evaluation and linear extrapolation. In the paper, the stiffness matrices and the equilibrium equation of the spatial beam elements are built. The finite element model is built and the static calculation is carried out by I-DEAS, one of the finite element software, the static intensity can get. The buckling analysis of the JJ160/41-K oil derrick is done based on the buckling analysis theory.Being the object, the type of the JJ160/41-K oil derrick, services for the fifth drilling company in Daqing Oil Field. The evaluation of the oil derrick is that the load capacity decreases2.87%in comparison with the initial structure. The experiments show that the method connecting drilling test with the finite element simulation, can give a whole external conclusion on the derrick’s load capacity, using the intensity and linear extrapolation theories.
