Quality and efficiency is most important in the Panel die surface design. The procedure of die-face design is"design—analysis and evaluation—optimizing design". After numerical simulation techniques have been applied to the design process, the intelligent and automatic design are asked to improve quality and efficiency.The basic process, features and key technology of the design based on knowledge engineering are discussed in this paper. Related theory of stamping design based on knowledge is also discussed. This system is built upon the accessing of the features and relation of panel product and its die-face. Apply the template technology to the knowledge-driven die-face design for automotive panels. Develop the processes of section curves on addendum surface, and the design methods of the template-based parametric section curves on addendum surface are proposed.The creation of the section curves plays a key role in the design of binder. the author use the method of section curves,boundary,profile,template to realize it. And the method of section curves can be summarized in four ways: one line, two lines, four lines, combination. The design methods of the template-based parametric section curves on addendum surface are proposed. The addendum surface of automotive panels is the key technique of the die-face design. The Parametric template feature are used to encapsulate the experience in a template database, a knowledge-based engineering approach is adopted to apply in the die-face design, and the design procedure based on KBE is established, and the design methods of the template-based parametric section curves on addendum surface are proposed. The control curves embedded into engineering rules constrain the section curves and generate addendum and blankholder surface. The knowledge-driven design for panel die-face design is realized, and quality and efficiency level of the die-face design for automotive panels is enhanced.Based on the research, a computer aided system for die-face design of automotive panels has been developed on UG platform. The design examples verify the correctness of the research results, and demonstrate the practicability of the system.
