Chair, as the most familiar thing to us, is playing an important role in people's material and spiritual life. In the modern, the culture factor in the vast majority of mechanized chairs is increasingly fading, On the contrary, stressing on the material comfort and commercial value and ignoring its cultural role. So how to exhibit and achieve the cultural functions, and how to study the local culture patterns and culture resource of the chair need to be considered as one of the crucial topics.Beijing Folk Culture Research is an important part and one of the main subjects in local chair design, it is a cultural patterns and cultural resources, and this culture is closely related to people's lives, but also the guiding elements for the application and development of design and theoretical basis, this article focuses on regional culture issues reflected in Chairs design procedure and re-examine the definition of regional culture as to preserve and develop the regional design culture, acquire the acceptability of the whole community. Therefore, one hand, the subject is conducive to the image of the new Beijing Olympic and the spread of traditional culture, on the other hand, It is conducive to sort the information about Beijing's history and culture and customs, also it is benefit for succeeding Beijing's culture and the rational use of cultural resources, at the mean time, it contributes to the promotion of Beijing's science and technology and humanities synchronized coordinated development. Therefore, the chair design research based on the Beijing Folk Culture has a practical significance and theoretical significance.This article uses the system theory and research methods of design, integrated technology, ergonomics, and the folk art. It looks for the strategy of how to design folk art chair from the perspective of Beijing folk culture. The theory and investigation data about design of Beijing folk chair will be provided, and practice and creative work will be exhibited. Two ideas and methods are involved in this article. First, measured data and information will be obtained through study materials in the museum, library, computer and investigation, as the foundation of design ideas. Second, analyze the application of data and the feasibility to put forward transformed application method and the principles of designing folk-art chair, include design practice. The original work in this article includes "clothes" chair, "stone fish" chair, "acry" chair and "element" chair. The innovative design of these chairs aims to achieve a harmonization of modern lifestyle and traditional customs and culture. These works combine with traditional pottery art, lacquerware, wood and modern means of production materials and methods to develop and design, and explore new technology and traditional means, as to integrate the two. And explore a new handwork style of various traditional materials to obtain the evidence of design.
