As enhanced oil recovery technology was appliedd more and more popularly in China's main oilfields, the amount of waste water containing polyacrylamide(PAM) increased dramaticly. Because of the high ion concentration and high content of oil and suspended particle in such waste water, it is almost impossible to get satisfactory separation by treating it with traditional commercial oil-water separation agents. It is necessary to produce novel PAM containing waste water treating agents to meet the requirement for the recycle of the waste water.By screening the surfactants and other chemicals and properly adjusting the ratios among the components, we successfully prepared the HY type multi-functional waste water treating agent, which can tolerate other chemicals residue in the waste water.Indoor and field tests of the novel waste water treating agent was carried out, which focused on the performance of separation, flocculation of micro particle, and the effect on the viscosity of the PAM solution using the treated water as solvent. The best dosage of the agent was choosed according to the properties of the waste water in the target site. This work paved the way for the applications of the novel agent in large scale. It is also meaningful for the further research of waste water treating agents and the consequential tests and applications.
