As heavier and inferior of paraffin feedstock, and more strict quality requirement of international paraffin market, it is urgent to develop paraffin hydrorefining catalyst with good performance.Development and commercial application of novel SD-2 paraffin hydrorefining catalyst were reviewed in this paper.γ-Al2O3 carrier with the distribution of dual-peak pore was developed via the research of Al2O3 preparation technology. The novel SD-2 catalyst with higher activity and stability was prepared by pore volume co-impregnation method, adopting metallic Ni-W as active components.BET, IR, NH3-TPD,TPR ,XRD,SEM-EDS was employed to characterized SD-2 catalyst. It was showed that SD-2 catalyst had large pore, low acidity, even distribution of active component and good regeneration advantage.Based on laboratory catalyst, both scale-up and production results reached or exceeded laboratory level. 200ml hydrogenation unit evaluation results revealed that product quality was better than export food-class paraffin requirement.The first commercial application of SD-2 catalyst was performed at 100kt/a middle pressure paraffin hydrorefining unit of refinery at Daqing petrochemical company. The operation succeed once. Commercial application results suggested that SD-2 catalyst could deal with inferior paraffin feedstock with high oil content under the circumstance of 150% normal loading, and product quality totally met export requirement. Processing capability of the unit reached more than 150kt/a, which made great economic contribution to the refinery.
