This thesis examines the formation and development of American non-government environmental protection organization. The paper focuses on its achievement and experience in protecting the environment. This is because firstly, the American non-government environmental organization has been more than 100 years since its foundation in the 19th. Now at least 39 states have their own local environmental protection organizations, and the amount is bout 140. In addition, there are about more than 60 regional, national and global environmental protection organizations beyond the horizon of state. At the beginning, the American non-government environmental protection organization protected only single species and regional resources, while now it has developed into a national or global organization which protects not only American resources but also the natural resources in the whole world. As an organization with large numbers and great influence, it produces a great impact in protecting natural resources and influencing the formulating of environmental protection as well as enhancing people's consciousness of protecting environment. At the same time, the American environmental protection organization faces great challenges, for instance, the number of members of the organizations, the funds and its corresponding measure change with the development of economic and the change of the degree it is paid attention to; The dissemination of the anti-environmental protection organization is weakening people's consciousness of protecting environment; And different organization has different views on how to protect the environment, etc.. All of these mean that it will not be easy for the American non-government environmental protection in the future.Secondly, this study on the American non-government environmental protection organization has important practical significance. For it not only gives us deep enlightenment, but also presents experience for our country. This is because it is not enough to depend only on the government to supervise and protect the environment in our country, for with the development of industrialization, the issue of environmental pollution is becoming more and more serious. I argue in this paper how to establish nongovernmental environmental protection and bring it full into play with the legal permission, and therefore, it is possible for us to put resources to rational use and protect natural resources. The United States has almost the same territory with China, and there is similar issue of environmental pollution with the economic development in these two countries. But in the United States, there are many environmental protection organizations, while there are not such ones in China. In my opinion, we can draw experience from the development of American non-government environmental protection organizations. Firstly, there must be leaders with foresight and strong social responsibility of protecting environment; secondly, there must be good market-running mechanism, and therefore, it is possible for us to raise and use money; thirdly, we must emphasize the strength of the masses of people, and spread propaganda among them; and lastly, we must connect the environmental protection with scientific research.Nowadays, the issue of how to protect environment and resources is of global importance, it is significant for China to draw experience from American environmental protection organization to develop economic. Undoubtedly, it is an important task for the government and scholars to propel nongovernmental environmental protection organization forward and coordinate our economic development and the environmental protection.
