As one of the global underpinning industries, automotive manufacturing industry has to make individualized vehicles as soon as possible according to demand of highly competitive market. Welding assembly is one of the four techniques used by automotive manufacturing industry. Effective and rapid development of its production system means one of important conditions for the industry's quick satisfaction to market demand. Clamps are extensively used in the welding assembly, its precision and progress can directly affect automotive manufacturing precision and production period. In the past, welding jigs used in domestic automotive industry were usually design in a traditional way which is less effective and time-consuming. With gradual implementation and application of prompt and flexible manufacture and computer-integrated manufacture system, the traditional design method can not satisfy development of advanced automotive welding assembly.In the thesis I firstly analyze necessity and feasibility about computer assisted design for automotive welding jigs. Then through analysis of welding assembly line and characters of the jig configuration, I get conclusion of the jig designing process and essentials. And the reliable jig orientation design, data base setup for the jig CAD and its configuration standardization are highlighted in the thesis.Finally a practical case study on the jig CAD by CATIA is demonstrated.
