Traditional secondary wastewater treatment plants has great ability to remove organism, but can not has great remove efficiency as to nitrogen and phosphorus. In addition the remove effect is not stable enough to make sure the effluent satisfy the standard. The enhanced suspended medium & activated sludge bioreactor process was used in this study. On the base of activated sludge process, suspended medium is added to enhance the nitrogen removal, flocculant is added to lift phosphorus removal rate and control sludge bulking. Meanwhile, a series of experiments were conducted to determine optimal operation parameters of the enhanced suspended medium & activated sludge bioreactor process. In this study, the aeration mode of the enhanced suspended medium & activated sludge bioreactor process is analyzed and operation parameters are optimized. The results are as follows:â‘ On the selection of aeration mode, the aeration rate of the three channels are respectively 0.5m3/liN 6 m3/h and 4m3/h.â‘¡Optimal operation parameters of the enhanced suspended medium & activated sludge bioreactor process are determined as follows: HRT 3hr, PAFC 20mg/L, the carrier filling ratio 50% . Under above conditions, the removal rates of SCODCr, NH4+, TN and TP are 71%, 95.29%, 59.44%, and 98.08%. in the process, good nitrification results and the control of TP is achieved. The effluent meets I-class A criteria specified in Integrated Wastewater Discharge Standard.â‘¢In the enhanced suspended medium & activated sludge bioreactor process, when 20mg/L flocculant is added, the sludge of the system has great sedimentation capability, SVI is under 100 and 58.2% MLSS is MLVSS. In the sludge, bio-activity is guaranteed. More flocculant adding may have negative effect on biomass.â‘£Compared with the traditional secondary wastewater treatment process, the enhanced suspended medium & activated sludge bioreactor process shows the characteristic of short HRT, good nitrogen and phosphorous removal . In addition flocculant adding not only make the system have resistance to shock loading but also improve sludge sedimentation capability and prevent the happening of sludge bulking.
