In order to alleviate the odour pollution of wastewater treatment plants in the field of petrochemistry, the lab simulate and real odorants treated by biofilter were investigated in this thesis.In the laboratory experiment the toluene is selected as the simulacrum and the peat as filters.The germs which can degradate toluene highly were acclimated and screened,then were inoculated into the biofilter to grow so that the toluene can be degradated.The factors which can influence the reactor's purifying performance were investigated,such as the entry toluene concentration, the entry volume loadings,the empty bed contact time, pH,temperature,the humidity ,the addition of nutritions and so on.The pressure drop and the recovery ability of the biofilter were also studied.The results of biofiltration experiments show that the biofiltration degradation efficiency is more than 90% when the entry toluene concentration less than 1000 milligram per stere,The higher of entry toluene concentration,the lower of toluene degradation efficiency. When the entry toluene concentration is close,the longer empty bed contact time is, the better the reactors'performance is.The volume removel loading of biofilters are increased along with the entry volume loadings.When the entry volume loadings are low ,the toluene can be degradated completely. The degradation efficiency is becoming lower along with the entry volume loadings increasing.The best working conditions are that pH is between 7 and 8,the temperate is 35℃and the humidity of the filters is between 55% and 65%. The pressure drop of the biofilter is increasing with the prolonger of the running time. Keeping he humidity of the filters between 55% and 65%,the system of biofilter can recover absolutely in 48 hours after stopping running for 2 weeks.This reveals that the biofilter can adapt the changes of field instances well.When the odors emitting from oil refining wastewater treatment plant in petrochemical company were treated by the biofilter filled with peats,the degradation efficiency of the odors is keeping between 80% and 100%.This reveals that the technology of biofiltration is good at treating mixed odour pollutants.
