Cracking C5 fraction was the byproduct of ethene device and with the increasing of ethene production, the amount of it would be much more. C5 fraction was composed of active olefins and dienes, of which dienes especially cyclopentadiene (CPD),isoprene(IP) and 1, 3-pentadiene (PD) was valuable resource in chemical production because of their active chemical properties. But in our country, most C5 fraction was directly used as fuel, only little as chemical raw material. So the research on the seperation and utilization of cracking C5 fraction was the important aspect of making the best of C5 resource. At present, the separation of C5 was based on the technology that CPD was tend to dimerize and dicyclopentadiene(DCPD) was easy to be separated from C5 fraction. So commonly CPD could be separated by thermal dimerization and then isoprene(IP) and 1,3-pentadiene (PD) were separated by extractive rectification. A wide and deep research on the seperation and utilization of cracking C5 fraction has been done in this paper. The producing scale, product plan and seperation process of C5 seperating unit were determined. By doing research on mainly influence elements of CPD thermal dimerization, good operation conditions for CPD reacting have been determined. and the conditions of operation and process were obtained.The difficult points of the technology of designing and operation was analyzed, and the improvement was pointed out. This paper also put forward suggestions on utilization of cracked C5 and development of isoprene(IP).
