In recent years, Large-scale chemical plants has been emerged and expanded as the remarkable development of ethylene industry. Utilization of the by-products of the ethylene unit and developing technology for comprehensive utilization of C5 is very important to cut down ethylene production costs, improve resource utilization and the economic benefits for these ethylene plants. The way of comprehensive utilization of C5 fraction has been changed from mixture to single composition with the development of preparation techniques, and more fine chemical products with high additional value are manufactured from single composition.The cracking C5 resources utilization situation, dicyclopentadiene(DCPD) petroleum resin production status and product prospects are expound in this paper The separation methods of cracking C5 in the world are summarized. The n method for separation of cracking C5 in Daqing Petrochemical Company is also described, evaluated and analyzed. DCPD resin was synthesized using dicyclopentadiene from the separation device of cracking C5 as raw material, by the thermal polymerization technology. Reaction conditions such as raw material ratio, solvent, temperature, reaction time were studied. A resin with a hue less than 7#, softening point above 120 ℃ was prepared when the material ratio of dicyclopentadiene to cracking C9 is 40:50, using the 140℃ cut fraction as the solvent, the polymerization reaction was carried out at 235-240 ℃, for 7-8 hours, the resin yield was more than 51%. This resin has lighter chrome, softening point and excellent performance. Through industrial producing, the performance indexes meet the requirements of the industry standard. Using thermal polymerization technology, DCPD, C5 fraction of cracking, cracking C9 fraction as raw material, a kind of DCPD/C5/C9 copolymer resin is polymerized. The author does researches on the raw material ratio, polymerization temperature polymerization conditions that affect the performance of the copolymer resin and confirms the optimum technology conditions, namely: DCPD/C5/C9 material ratio 4:5:2 is more appropriate; the reaction temperature is 232 ℃; the reaction time for under dynamic stirring is 4 hours, the still and constant temperature reaction is 39.5 hours. Such copolymer resin hue is between 8 #-11 #, a softening point about 111℃, the yield 64%. With better solubility, higher yield, easier production control features of the softening point, DCPD/C5/C9 copolymer resin polymerization process is reasonable and the route aggregation is practical and simple, so it can form large-scale production.
