The Research On The Green Design Of Chinese Traditional Furniture

Furniture is not only the necessity of people's life, work and study, but also the main indoor decoration. It is a kind of industrial product which perfectly combines techniques and art .It is supposed to meet people's need of use function as well as their aesthetic wish. With the advancement of the age and the development of the society, there will be continuous new demands on furniture design. Therefore, green furniture which is beneficial to the users, with no harm or hidden harm and which is able to meet the many kinds of requirements from people who use it, and live up to the standard of environmental protection during the process of producing and recycling and reuse becomes an important direction of furniture-making. It is considered the only way for furniture makers and corporations to enhance their own competitiveness.The Chinese ancient furniture, with a long history, forms its own system and has strong national characteristics. Influenced by national style, customs, geographical weather, and making techniques, the Chinese ancient furniture has developed in a completely different way from that of western countries. It has formed an oriental furniture system with exquisite workmanship and simple but thought-provoking style, blazing its own path in the history of the world's furniture development and having great impact on the development of world's furniture and indoor decoration.The Chinese furniture is deeply influenced by the thoughts of Chinese traditional culture which emphasizes the balance between "yin" and "yang" and the combination of human and nature. In the design system, it upholds naturalness, advocates simplicity and stresses harmony. These ideas happen to hold the same view as the thought of green furniture design. Based on these points, ways of Chinese ancient furniture design have been deeply discussed and the connotation of green design has been tapped with the purpose to seek a new way of green furniture design.In my paper, I will concentrate on the following three aspects mainly:First, through the discussion of green design and the requirements, characteristics and connotation of green furniture design, the basic rules of green furniture design will be put forward.Second, the green design of Chinese traditional furniture design has been specifically explored and analyzed. Combined with green furniture design, the design idea, material use, function and structure design and ergonomics of Chinese traditional furniture are given specific analysises. Besides, certain discussion and research are conducted on its expanded application.Finally, by studying practical cases, the practicalness of traditional ways of design will be discussed and proved when used in green furniture design.
