| Material is substantial carrier of furniture design, and to some extent, the selection and utility affects its form and aesthetic aspects. The first chapter of this essay will discuss the background, purpose, significance and the points of innovation of this subject. The second chapter will conduct a brief introduction to property and manufacturing process of three most usual materials: wood, metal, plastics and three new applied materials: glass, bines, paper. The third chapter will analyze the rules of above six materials'application, summarize characteristics of application, and foresee the tendency of each material of furniture design. The forth chapter is going to summarize rules of application, principles of selection, analyze examples of materials'economization and prospect of materials'application development. Last but not least, put forward proposals on the basis of preceding chapters.
