The roof falling accident is the most commonly occurring accidents in coal mines mining process. Roof accident is a major potential hidden trouble to influence production of working face in the coal mine. It has great significance to safety in production at working face that distinguishing correctly between the various roof accidents, and taking effective control measures. The reasons leading to casualties of roof-falling accidents must be analyzed in order to preventing roof-falling accidents effectively. Presently the methods used to analyze accidents generally are systematic analysis methods. There into, fault-tree analysis (FTA) is utilized frequently. FTA is a scientific and advanced method that is accepted commonly and used widely to carry out safety analysis and forecast accidents. This kind of method is very simple and visual because it can identify and appraise fatalness existing in all kind of systems not only quantitatively but also qualitative. The methods and theories of FTA are introduced in the paper, and the advantages and disadvantages of it are analyzed. The analytic procedures for FTA are represented and some quantitative and qualitative analysis for it is worked out. FTA's applications to collieries haven' t satisfied people's demands well because of particularity existing in coal production. The following problems will come forth during FTA's application: establishing FTA difficultly, collecting data and settling calculation comprehensively, understanding FTA hardly. Hence, for the sake of altering difficulty of artificial compilation and data processing and changing the phenomenon of overslaughing safety factors, the thesis brings forward the artificial method of establishing fault-tree in the context of computer support to auxiliarily to impulse this analytic method to be applied in mines. The manual preparation, the data processing difficulties are changed, and the phenomenon of artificial omission risk factors are effectively avoided.
