Studies On The Shape And Decoration Of Shanxi Traditonal Vernacular Furniture

The main topics of this study were to investigate the shape, carving and lacquer of Shanxi traditional vernacular furniture. By means of searching related books, seeing about on the spot as well as taking photograph, and with the example of Kang Furniture, we compared Shanxi traditional vernacular furniture to Ming Style Furniture, which helps to catch on the intension of shape and decoration of Traditional Furniture and thus contributes to the design of modern Chinese Style furniture.The background that Shanxi Traditional Furniture formed its Silver Age lies on the flourishing economy at that time, which led to the ethos of creature extravagant, and the culture tradition and faith of the business man.Shanxi Traditional Vernacular Furniture, which showed tight contact with the architecture of that time ,combined its shape with its proportion and function, attached importance to the changeful leg and foot as well as the link between spot and side. Carving, lacquer and copper accouterment composed the main ornament of Shanxi Traditional Vernacular Furniture, among which the carving collected many decoration styles and techniques that did not stick to one pattern, brought out the best in each other, and presented well-regulated figuration, in contras,t the lacquer emphasized on complex working procedure and precise techniques.
