Traditional Chinese drug is the precious heritage of the Chinese and world culture. Various changes and trend of international and national medical market nowadays create a golden opportunity of developing traditional Chinese drug industry. To make Chinese drug industry more competitive on the world market, we have to achieve modernization production, which is on the base of comprehending chemicals of traditional Chinese drug.Platycarya Strobilacea Sieb. et Zucc belongs to Platycarya and Juglandaceae. Its infructescence can clear away the heat-evil, expel superficial evils, activate blood circulation to dissipate blood stasis, and dispel wind-evil. The efficacy likes magic. It has been used as the main drug for treating nasal sinusitis and acute or chronic rhinitis. More, it is the first time to use infructescence of Platycarya Strobilacea Sieb. et Zucc in the preparation.Effective constituent to treat nasal sinusitis and acute or chronic rhinitis has not been extracted and separated from infructescence of Platycarya Strobilacea Sieb. et Zucc at home and abroad. A technique of Chinese patent medicine, which developed on the basis of folk traditional Chinese drug, was studied in this paper. By pharmacological experiment antibacterial activity of the extract was confirmed. It was the first time active constituent of infructescence of Platycarya Strobilacea Sieb. et Zucc was studied. The achievements concluded two aspects.(1) To extract effective constituent to treat nasal sinusitis and acute or chronic rhinitis from infructescence of Platycarya Strobilacea Sieb. et Zucc by system studying technology.After decocting powder of infructescence in water and precipitating by ethanol, different effective substances were obtained in different polarityultimately, as achieving chloroform, ethyl acetate, butyl alcohol and water extracting solution. By primary pharmacological experiment, it found that the ethyl acetate extracting solution had the greatest antibacterial activity. Separated it by column-chromatography, and five part of substance was gained, including flavonoids. And the subsequent pharmacological experiment is now being done.(2) To study technologies of separating flavonoids from infructescence of Platycarya Strobilacea Sieb. et Zucc by solvent precipitation and deposition method with lead salt. The results showed that the latter had the better efficiency. Technologies of circulating and agitating and that of ultrasonic extracting were studied and optimized. The best experimental conditions of extracting flavonoids were confirmed by RSA (response surface analysis) on the basis of single factors.One of the innovation of the studies was that a few active sites were separating from infructescence of Platycarya Strobilacea Sieb. et Zucc at the first time, whose antibacterial activity in treating nasal sinusitis and acute or chronic rhinitis was done by primary pharmacological experiment.The other one of the innovation of the studies was that flavonoids were separating from infructescence of Platycarya Strobilacea Sieb. et Zucc at the first time, and the optimized technology and conditions were also achieved.
