With the development of the economy and society, the requirement of the electricity is increasing. More and more water is used to cool the equipment of the electric generator. Currently cooling cooling-down method is applied to power plants, as a result, thermal effect and water quality effect can be produced to the region of water discharge.Combining with the modeling results of thermal discharge from Chizhou and Wujing power plants, the effect of thermal discharge on hydrobiont and water quality researched in detail. The water discharge of two power plants is susceptive, because the outlet of Chizhou power plant is in Tonling Fresh Water Dolphin Nature Reserve, and the down-stream of outlet of Wujing power plant is standard water resource.Based on the former results, some major research results were as follows:(1) Engineering criterion and thermal effect index of fishes, algae, zooplankton and zoobenthos were chosen as the index of synthesis assessments to the thermal effect.(2) Synthesis pollution equal criterion index, exceed multiple and exceed ratio were chosen as the index of synthesis assessments to the water quality effect.(3) The temperature field and the contamination concentration field were Simulated. Using 2-D numerical simulation model, The effect of thermal discharge on hydrobiont water quality were predicted.As a result, thermal effect and water quality effect of thermal discharge were showed better by the assessments index and simulation results accorded with real value. Therefore, the index and model were applicable. These methods may give reference to the assessment of the environmental impacts in analogy region.
