Based on the project, Studying and Developing on the Reconstruction of "Spice-Kitchen "Automata System of Cigarette Plant, which is carried out by one Automatization Instrument Institute, the structure design for vessel and pipeline, the control methods for temperature analogs, the applications of PLC in automatic control system, the realization of algorithm in software as well as the communication between PLC and upper management computer were researched from two directions, theoretic and engineering application. According to the study and analysis on existing vessel heating and stirring methods, measurement technology, control methods, characteristics of executive mechanisms and field bus technology, the whole development process of "Spice-Kitchen "Automata System was thoroughly discussed. The discussion dealt with the general plan of vessels and pipeline; the scheme of heating, heat preservation and stirring structure for dissolving and storing vessels; the constitution of control strategy for gauging and heating; the design of electrical control system; and the realization of software and hardware corresponding to the control strategy, measuring methods and auxiliary functions. The system performance was also validated through a series of experiments. The project was already checked and received by client. First, the tasks, characteristics and significance of "Spice-Kitchen "in cigarette plant were introduced, and then the development of "Spice-Kitchen "Automata System was described from history to present situation. Aiming at the disadvantages of present control systems those are used now in "Spice-Kitchen "in domestic cigarette plant, such as instability of control precision, poor adaptability to the process with various kinds of spice, discommodious interface and lower degree of informatization etc., the necessity to develop a set of "Spice-Kitchen "control system which is adaptable to modern management, highly automated, simple for operation and friendly in human-computer interface was indicated. The main study contents of the paper were also clearly listed in the chapter. Every design demands, all control tasks and all auxiliary functions provided by client were detailedly analyzed one by one in this chapter. Depending on the analysis, the general plan of the system was provided which included design for vessels and pipeline, measuring and executing mechanisms, controllers and the interface. The cubage and the quantity of the vessels, as well as their functions, were first determined as requirements of client; after arranging the locations of vessels in the "Spice-Kitchen "the connecting scheme of pipeline between the vessels was made out according to their functions; and then the types of measuring and executing mechanisms, including temperature measuring, infusing water quantity measuring, liquid weight measuring, and various automatic vales, were selected in an accordance with their functions planned in general plan. The selection of controllers and interface were detailedly described in the following step. The reasons to select PLC as controller, touch screen as interface, were explained by introducing their concept, characteristics and related soft and hardware. The tasks of selected controllers and interface were stipulated based on the function design in general plan. Grounding on the study on present technique status of communication functions with upper computer, which was required by the system, the communication mode in the system was determined in the end. The contents of this chapter were actual implement of arrangement for vessels and pipeline described in chapter 2. Besides the simple tasks like cubage design of vessels and holding on vessels, the heating and heat preservation methods for the dissolving and storing vessels were determined; the stirring mode in the vessels was designed through analyzing the reason of swirling; the diameters of all pipes in pipeline connecting scheme of general plan were calculated and the types of pumps for transporting liquids were also selected. Chapter 4. Development of Electrical Section The development of electrical section was described from three aspects. In first aspect the hardware configuration for measuring and executing elements, such as differential pressure transmitter, electromagnetic flow meter, thermal resistance, pneumatic ball valve, pump and stirring motor, was introduced in principle and performance, and their types, manufacturers and quantity used in the system were also listed. The electrical cabinet group was described in second aspect in which the collocation and connection between modules of the controller were mainly introduced.
