The structural steelworks are extensively used in opera houses, gymnasiums, high buildings and so on. In case of fire such materials distort and lead to the collapse of building structures when the temperature of the steel exceeds the critical temperature (about 540℃). When heated, the acid sources decompose to yield the dehydrating agent, which react with the carbonaceous char-forming agents to form an ester. The ester begins to dehydrate and cross-link to char simultaneously with the evolution of gas from the blowing agent. In the end, fire retardant coatings form an expandable multi-cellar charred protective layer, which limits the heat transfer from the heat sources to the substrates and the mass transfer from the substrates to the heat sources. As a result, firemen will have more time to put out the fire. This paper studied the fire proofing mechanisms of the fire retardant...
