In this paper, the water based ultra thin-filmed fire resistive coatings was prepared and studied, which consist of some components such as the coating material (the vinylidene chloride copolymer/ silicone-acrylic vinylidene blended emulsion), the fire retardant system(ammonium polyphosphate, pentaerythritol, melamine and chlorinated paraffin), the blended additives ( Mg(OH)2 and A1(OH)3) and the dispersant(water). Using the single-factor analysis and orthogonal design gained the best condition as follows: the ratio of vinylidene chloride copolymer/ silicone-acrylic 2:1, ammonium polyphosphate/pentaerythritol/melamine and chlorinated paraffin limited to 5:3:3, and the emulsion dosage, fire retardant system and stuffing 5:11:2.The ammonium polyphosphate, Mg(0H)2 and Al(0H)3 were modified by stearic acid, which showed that the dispersant performance of the inorganic components was highly improved by modified-APP, so as to the physicochemical properties and fire-resisting time. By Fourior Transformation Infrared Spectroscopy and Scanning Electron Microscopy, we found the modified-Mg(OH)2 and modified-Al(OH)3 were well dispersed in the emulsion. Furthermore, the blended additives of Mg(0H)2 and AI(0H)3 could eliminate the smoke a lot as well.By modern analysis instruments such as thermogravimetry, differential scanning calorimetry to the coatings and its components including ammonium polyphosphate, pentaerythritol, melamine and chlorinated paraffin, we found that every component of the coating matched well.When the film was heated to intenerate, gases were released ,the intenerated film expanded and formed the air bubble.At the same time, dissociative ion acid were released from the acid source and made the charring layer dehydrated to shape charcoal framework.
