In the research of air pollution controlling, the removal of dust from air stream was a very important topic. Filter media, being the key part of bag filter, has seriously influence to the dust removal process. The shortcoming of traditional filter media, such as high and fluctuating resistance, low efficiency for very small size dust, high frequency of regeneration etc., can be overcome by using pre-coating technique surface filtration process. In this study, MF membrane was introduced to the dust removal process, ePTFE (expanded poly-tetra-fluoric-ethylene) porous membrane has very slippery surface, with micro-size pores. In this work, using the membrane filter media, the efficiency of dust removal and the influence of the direction of filtration, dust concentration and other operating condition on the behavior of filtration were studied. Results show that the particles which has a diameter as PM2.5—PM10 were completely removed, the efficiency >99.999%. After regeneration, the residual resistance almost zero. Comparing to the traditional filter, such as needle-felt and nonwave fabric, ePTFE membrane has many advantages, also with a board application potential. Results also show that the resistance of ePTFE membrane is very small, and the membrane structure is almost un-changed during filtration process. The resistance of dust cake acts a dominant role in the overall resistance. Dust concentration has little influence on the structure of dust cake, and the pore size, porosity, and thickness of the membrane affect the cake layer structure scarcely. While the particle size had very noticeable...
