The isothermal section of the phase diagram of the Gd-Mn-Ti ternary system at 773K has been investigated mainly by X-ray powder diffraction with the aid of differential thermal analysis and metallography. The 773K isothermal section consists of eleven single-phase regions, nineteen two-phase regions and nine three-phase regions.The eleven single-phase regions are: A(Gd) , B(Mn) , C(Ti) , D(GdMn2) , E(Gd6Mn23) , F(GdMn12) , G(Mn5Ti) , H(Mn2Ti) , I(Mn0.52Ti0.48), J(MnTi) and K(Mn15Ti85).The 19 two-phase regions are: A+C, A+D, A+H, A+I, A+J, A+K, D+H, D+E, E+F, E+B, E+G, E+H, F+B, B+G, G+H, H+I, I+J, J+K and K+C.The 9 three-phase regions are: A+D+H, A+H+I, A+I+J, A+J+K, A+K+C, D+E+H, E+F+B, E+B+G and E+G+H.At 773K, the maximum solid solubility of Ti in Mn, GdMn12,Gd6Mn23 and GdMn2 are about 8at%, 2at%, 3at% and 3at% Ti, respectively. The homogeneity range of Mn2Ti extends from about 61at% to 69at% Mn. No ternary compounds were observed in this work.
