The Phase relationship in the Er-Mn-Ti ternary system at 773K has been investigated by X-ray powder diffraction with the aid of differential thermal analysis(DTA)and optical microanalysis techniques in this work.The eight binary compounds Mn15Ti85,αMnTi,βMnTi,Mn2Ti,Mn5Ti,ErMn12,Er6Mn23and ErMn2 have been confirmed in this system at 773K.The maximum solid solubility of Ti in Mn is about 8at.%Ti.The homogeneity range of Mn2Ti extends from about 61at.%to 69at.%Mn.The maximum solid solubility of Er in Mn2Ti phase is about less than 1at.%Er.No ternary compounds were found in this ternary system.The isothermal section of phase diagram consists of eleven single-phase regions,nineteen two-phase regions and nine three-phase regions.The eleven single-phase regions are:α(Er),β(Ti),γ(Mn15Ti85),δ(αMnTi),ε(βMnTi),ζ(Mn2Ti),η(Mn5Ti),θ(Mn),ι(ErMn12),κ(Er6Mn23), andλ(ErMn2).The nineteen two-phase regions are:α+β,β+γ,γ+δ,δ+ε,ε+ζ,ζ+η,η+θ,θ+ι,ι+κ,κ+λ,λ+α,α+γ,α+δ,α+ε,α+ζ,ζ+λ,ζ+κ,η+κandθ+κ.The nine three-phase regions are:α+β+γ,α+γ+δ,α+δ+ε,α+ε+ζ,α+ζ+λ,ζ+κ+λ,ζ+η+κ,η+θ+κandθ+ι+κ.
