SEBS is a kind of general-service thermoplastic elastomer material. SEBS possesses better properties than SBS due to selective hydrogenation of the unsaturated carbon-carbon double bonds in the molecular chain of SBS.In the paper, RuCl2(PPh3)3-PPh3 and [Ru(COD)Cl2]n-PPh3 two catalysis systems were adopted to prepare SEBS, the effect of reaction conditions on the hydrogenation degree of SBS was studied, microstructure determination and properties characterization of the product of hydrogenation were conducted, the effect of hydrogenation degree on the performance of SBS was determined.In the paper, the effects of temperature, pressure of hydrogen, reaction time, molar ratio of P/Ru, concentration of catalyst on the hydrogenation degree of SBS were investigated and discussed in detail. Compare to the former catalysis system of RuCl2(PPh3)3-PPh3, [Ru(COD)Cl2]n-PPh3 catalysis system possessed so much great advantages, such as with higher catalysis activity, middle reaction conditions, better stability and more simple synthetic method, that the hydrogenation of SBS to SEBS processed great prospect of industrial application.
