With the rapid development of petroleum industry, ship transportation of petroleum gets extraordinary development, which results in a series of oil spill accidents in recent years. Oil spill not only destroy water environment seriously, but also affect human life and holdback economic increase of local regions. How to control and clear the oil spill quickly when accident happens is an issue that researchers are focusing on.In this paper, based on the review of numerical simulation of oil spill, a mathematical model of oil spill is developed and applied to the prediction of oil spill in Hongze Lake. The simulation mainly includes two sections, the solution of surface velocity of lake, and the simulation of oil spill movement. In the solution of surface velocity, Osher-scheme, a scheme with high performance based on finite volume method, is adopted. The simulation results show that Osher-scheme is a numerical method with high precision. In the simulation of oil spill, the oval spreading model is adopted at the first stage when oil film is very thick and the oil spreading due to the oil itself is the main course. With the spreading going on, oil film gets thinner and thinner, the water turbulence action becomes the control factor of oil spill diffusion. At this time, oil-particulate model is used to simulate the movement of oil spill. It shows that both of the simulation methods are fit for practical situation based on theoretical analyses and simulation results.Achievements of the paper have important significance in the prediction of oil spill movement and the establishment of emergency plans for oil spill in small regions, including lakes, ports and docks.
