The Effects Of Lifestyle On Domestic Household Furniture Design

From the beginning of 1980's, The Chinese furniture industry has gone through development one by one. Today, the total production value of furniture has reached $204 billion in China, and with $7.33 billion of exports, China has been the No.2 producer of exported furniture in the world. However, the status quo of furniture design which is the weakness has retarded the growth of furniture industry.This paper makes research on the effects of lifestyle on household furniture design. From the title, firstly, we find that the paper includes primary three parts: lifestyle, household furniture design and the effects of the former on the later. At first, the paper researches into our people's lifestyle today. On the basis of the relational sociological theories, the paper explains the definition of lifestyle and "the theoretical frame of research on the lifestyle". Then the paper discusses several specialties of our people's lifestyle today from two points of view of lifestyle's structure and content.Secondly, the paper creates "the theoretical frame of research on modern furniture design" on the basis of summarizing the relational theories about furniture design and my experience in designing furniture. The frame includes three parts: design connotation, furniture basic attribute and key issue of design. Here the author considers that the connotations of design are "democratic" and "ecological", analyzes five factors must be taken into account in furniture design, and researches into "the relationship between the form and function", the key issue of design. This theoretical frame becomes the basis of the research on furniture design.On the basis of the two theoretical frames above, the paper begin to research into the effects of lifestyle on household furniture design. According to the theoretical frame of research on modern furniture design, the paper discusses the effects of lifestyle on design connotation, furniture basic attribute and key issue of design within the household furniture. In the research, the author expatiates which factors of lifestyle affect the relational factor of furniture design and how they work. At the same time, the paper putting the theory into the practice uses the point of view of the paper to explain some phenomena about household furniture design.Arid in the fourth chapter, the author investigates the effects of the three concrete aspects: space of dwelling house, home appliances and home-storage on house furniture design.At last, the author uses the theories in this article to make design experiment, and make it be tested using the information from the marketing.When researching and experimenting, we find that the effects of lifestyle on household furniture design are profound and wide, and the design of household furniture must be taken up on the basis of the lifestyle.
