Based on analyzing thermal process of reheating furnace in Strip Steel Factory of Baotou Iron and Steel Company, a mathematical model, which was coupled with heat transfer in furnace as well as heating process of slab to premixed flame combustion and gas turbulent flow in the furnace, was set up. In this paper, numerical techniques and solution procedures of the model was studied. Four kinds of typical operating condition were simulated by the mathematical model. The numerical results of the mathematical model were compared with the measure results of gas temperature and slab temperature, which verifed the factuality and reliability of the mathematical model.A data base including optimal furnace temperature, style of heat supply, optimization of air-fuel ratio and slab temperature at different kinds of steel, demand of operating modes and rolling speed was obtained by the off-line mathematical model, and on-line control mode based on the data base was worked out.
