Sea-island fibre is the compound spinning by using two different polymers of inhomogeneous dissolving properties as spinning raw feedstock at the same time, of which the polymer with good dissolvability is taken as "Sea" component and the other polymer as "Island" component, thus to spin out the sea and island type structure in layer of cross section with sheath of sea component encircling core layer of .island state. Splitting is normally required to dissolve out the sea component and segregate off the island components through fibre opening, so as to achieve superfine fibre of tens even hundreds of monofilament in very fine titre. As monofilament of sea-island superfine fibre is finer than that of division type superfine fibre and more uniform in titre, fabrics made of sea-island fibre hand feel smoother and softer, and the products are extensively applied in artificial suede, peachskin fabric, super-high density waterproof and air-pervious fabrics and other textile fields.In this paper, on the basis of study on the technology of alkali treatment for fabrics made of sea-island filament, analysed the influences of fabric structure, bath ratio, time and caustic soda concentration over loss of weight, and the influences of the loss of weight over the density and breaking strength of fabric and the filaments in the fabric, also studied the breathability and water transfer of fabrics made of sea-island filament. The conclusions were drawn as follows:1. In the same conditions, the loss of weight is getting bigger with the raising of caustic soda concentration. And the loss of weight will ascend if the bath ratio was raised. The time of OH~ affect on the fabric is getting longer with the raising of time, and it is the reason why the loss of weight increased. The loss of weight is getting bigger with the raising of JFC dosage. The loss of weight is getting smaller with the raising of the fabric structure.2. The sea-island fibre will turn into superfine fibre after alkali treatment, and the density and tensile strength of the fabric is getting smaller with theraising of the loss of weight, but when the loss of weight is 5%, the density and tensile strength of the fabric is biggest.3. The tensile strength of the fabric is getting smaller with the raising of caustic soda concentration, if the loss of weight is sameness, but the standard deviation is getting smaller too. The influence of penetrant JFC to fabric tensile is lower, but the standard deviation of the filaments is smaller.4. With the raising of the loss of weight, the wicking height of the fabric is getting bigger and then more and more smaller, during this process, there is a maximum and minimum, and the wicking height of the filament in the fabric is getting bigger with the raising of the loss of weight. In the same conditions, only when the equivalent sectional radius of the capillary is over the minimumallowable radius (rmin), the capillary effect can occur, and the smaller the deviation between the equivalent sectional radius of the capillary and the minimum allowable radius (rmm) is, the bigger of the pressure (AP), and moredifficult for wicking effect of the fabric to occur.5. Wicking effect test is to measure the height of water has ascended in the fabric, mainly to measure the ability of water transfers through fabric plane direction, however water drop penetrating test is to measure the ability of water transfers through the fabric, not only measure the ability of water transfers through fabric plane direction, but also measure the ability of water transfers through fabric thickness direction. During wicking effect test, the mass of water transferred through the fabrics is different, but during water drop penetrating test, the mass of water transferred through the fabrics is uniform.6. With the raising of the loss of weight, the linear rate of water transfer in the capillaries of sea-island filament is getting smaller, but in a sea-island filament, the total flow of water transfer in the capillaries is firstly getting...
