The drapability of fabric is a kind of drape performance with the effect of its own weight. It shows the fabric drape capability and drape shape of fabrics, and it is also an important aspect of fabric visual style and aesthetics coziness ability. Therefore, it is of great importance to do research on the drapability of fabric.This paper gives brief review of the orientation and status quo of fabric drapability research. In order to solve the problems existing in the testing method of fabric drape,a new method based on image processing technology is introduced in this paper. Then, regarded fabric specimen as the research major object, through the research of the relationship between fabrics drape capability and it's structure and mechanical properties,and the research of visual simulation of fabric drape shape, then fabric drapability forecast system was set up.The major work that the subject has accomplished includes:1.Summarized the current Status,orientation and theory with regard to the fabric drapability research both in and abroad systemically.2.In this paper, ten draping parameters was proposed to express fabric drapability from fabric draping extent and draping shape. By using those draping parameters 3D draping shape was rebuilded. The study provides a new method to rebuild fabric draping shape by pulling in fabric properties.3.There are very important relationship between fabric drapability and it's structure and mechanical properties, therefore, it is necessary to do a great deal of experimental testing to reveal the interrelation between them. In order to make the experimental test result widely and credibly, we choose total 50 fabric samples with different material, different thickness, different structure for research, and then the test value about fabric drapability, fabric structure and mechanical properties are obtained.4.The method of main factor analysis is applied for the fabric drapability test result in the paper. As the result,many parameter indexs for expressing fabric draping ability are simplified into only a few main factors. The evaluation system for fabric drape was simplified. Through analysis of step-by-step regression repeatedly, the internal relations for indexs is discussed between fabric drape and it's structure and mechanical characteristics in this paper. The high interrelation is revealed.5.According to the research for fabric digital imitation.By using ten draping parameters 3D draping shape was rebuilded. The results prove that the method to rebuild fabric draping shape showed in this paper is successful.6.It have comprehensive application prospect and very important academic values to do research on fabric drapability forecast before fabric manufacture in textile industry.In this paper, influence of fabric structure and mechanical characteristics on fabric drape are analysed,and then fabric drapability forecast system was set up based on MATLAB language.In this system fabric draping parameters can be obtained and draping shape can be rebuilded by pulling in fabric properties.The research have a great important practical significance to textile industry and garment CAD.
