With rapid economic development, accelerating the urbanization process, a large amount of surface storm water is generated from rainstorm during very short period due to the high intensity rainfall and an inadequate sewer system, with serious local flooding in an urban area. The number of flood disasters has been increasing significantly in recent years, and the lives and properties of citizens in these cities are heavy threaten. The urban economic and social development are restricted at certain degree. The study of urban storm flood simulation has important research significance and application value.Based on the previous research, the impact of urbanization on storm flood, urban storm flood simulation and flood model are reviewed. The work of this paper is summarized as follows.Based on the understanding of landform, rivers and urban development of Jinan city, the cause of flood disaster was analyzed. The impact of urbanization on storm flood is studied based on the rainfall and flood data. With the MIKE 21 2D hydrodynamic simulation software developed by Danish Hydraulic Institute (DHI), the unstructured grid hydrodynamic model of the domain within Erhuan Road is developed at Jinan city. The model is applied at 2007-7-18 rainfall flooding data, and flow conditions and the submerged area are analyzed. The study results are show that the model may simulate the urban streets flood and surface storm water. Finally, a summary is given and some problems to be further studied are discussed.
