The paper basing on the red stratum in Yunnan province, analyzes the characters of the distribution range, the formation age and the petrofabric and studies the material and the engineering properties of the red stratum combed with the highway, and then analyzes the characters of the slope engineering disasters.Yunnan province can be divided into the west and the middle of the dian accord to the distribution of the geographical distribution. The work why Yunnan divided into the two parts will be done. The characters of the distribution of red stratum in Yunnan can be got through the detailed analysis of the formation age and the distribution area and the properties and the thickness and the area of the red stratum even contrasting the characters of the two parts of red stratum in Yunnan province.Red stratum which has the particular engineering characters, is considered as a kind of the weak rock.
