Normal university student teacher's training and professional development is an important part of teacher's education and one of the hot topics of research of the international teacher's education currently, and it is also a domestic problem that the higher normal education should face up directly. The purpose of this study is to analyze the student teachers'understanding of the knowledge about the number system, and find the causes that lead to different level of understanding, and then put forward some pertinent suggestions.This study selects senior and junior students who major in mathematics from a provincial key university as the object of the research. From three aspects, including the understanding about the knowledge itself, the understanding and the belief of teaching the knowledge, we design test questions and interview the research object to analyze their understanding and find the causes that lead to different understanding. In addition, through the tracking investigation of the simulation of teaching and education practice, we analyze the teaching design and the classroom teaching that relate to the number system to reflect their understanding further.The research showed that: the condition of two grades'understanding about the knowledge of number system is not ideal, but relatively senior students slightly better than the junior students. The student teachers'main problems in the poor understanding are the lacking of deep understanding of the knowledge, the lacking of teaching understanding and the low belief of teaching the knowledge of the number system.Finally, based on the research process and conclusions, we put forward some pertinent suggestions about the courses and the teaching of the higher normal education,and the students'professional learning, etc, such as strengthen and consolidate the students' professional consciousness, optimize their professional curriculum system, etc. We expect that the study can improve and promote the development pre-service teachers'education pertinently and promote the reform of higher mathematics normal education.
