Herbage play an important role in forest ecosystems; a reasonable forest and grass plantation configuration is the basis of long-term health of management and is also the basis for natural ecosystem stability development. In order to provide reasonable proposals and theoretical basis for Ziwuling restoration and understand the growth and distribution conditions of the herbage in different forest types of Ziwuling Mountain, through the random sampling method, we conducted an investigation on the species composition, structural characteristics and differences under three forest types as Quercus liaotungensis, Pinus tabulaeformis, and Pinus shenkanensis, and compared those items with that in the south-faced slop. The main conclusions are as follows:(1) Three kinds of forest community types and the south-faced slop have herbage total 54 species belonging to 20 families. P. shenkanensis of which appeared in 21 species of herbage plants belonging to 14 families; Q. liaotungensis there, 26 species belonging to 12 families; 31 species of P. tabulaeformis, belonging to 14 families; the south-faced slop 32 species belonging to 16 families. The four samples to a total of only 7 kinds of species which belonging to four families. The dominant species of three kinds of forest types are Carex lanceolata, the south-faced slop is Artemisia giraldii Pamp.(2) The correlation analysis of three forest types and south-faced slop reveals that: Q. liaotungensis > south-faced slop > P. tabulaeformis > P. shenkanensis. Q. liaotungensis communities have a high stability.(3) Three kinds of forest community types and south-faced slop similarity comparison and found that the similarity coefficient between 0.38-0.48; the similarity coefficients between forest between 0.50-0.71 for the medium similar. Among them, the artificial P. tabulaeformis with the highest degree of similarity south-faced slop.(4) On three kinds of forest community types and south-faced slop herbage diversity index calculation, obtained in different forest and species richness Menhinnick index and Margalef index were significantly different, the sequence is south-faced slop > P. tabulaeformis > Q. liaotungensis > P. shenkanensis; south-faced slop and P. shenkanensis had significant differences (P < 0.01); south-faced slop has the largest Shannon-Wienner index, with the other there were significant differences (P < 0.01), different forest types have no differences; measuring ecological dominance of Simpson's index P. shenkanensis is the highest, south-faced slop minimum, and P. shenkanensis was highly significant (P < 0.01); Pielou evenness index south-faced slop highest minimum P. shenkanensis, during which significant differences (P < 0.05).(5) Stand factors, soil moisture, soil nutrient content have an impact on the growth of herbage distribution, but the correlation did not reach significant level.
