There are ninety species and thirty one sub-species of glires in Gansu, which is the considerable part of fauna in Gansu. The sixty eight species of grassland rodent account for 75.6 percent of the whole species of rodentia. Rodent as a kind of consumer plays a crucial role in material cycle, energy flow and information flow of grassland ecosystem. Rodent has attacted more and more concern of scientists in recent years for its disturbance to grassland ecological environment. But Web literatures and professional books are the countable ways to share the information of rodent. As yet no subject database of glires is found.Database technology is the specialized tool to handle a large amount of data bulk. With the development of database technology, the construction of characteristic database is the tendency, which contains regional database and subject database.Relative information was collected and analyzed to construct the database for rodent in Gansu by looking up literatures, field investigation and consulting experts. General development target was established by analyzed the requirements and feasibilities of Web Information System for Rodent in Gansu (WISRG).In the design session, system security and database structure were laid out thoroughly. This system used ASP technology and Microsoft SQL Server 2000 as exploitative terrace. The WISRG was composed of three parts, which were database of rodent in Gansu, information manage system and user query system. With the implementation of WISRG, the data source of rodent in Gansu was managed scientifically and shared through Internet.
