Landscape quantitative valuations and dynamics are performed based on factor that impact on landscape patterns and their dynamics, which can reflect regional landscape pattern problems, land use models, etc. This paper acquired local landscape spatial information, via the division of landscape types, based on the establishment of spatial database of Qixia City. Landscape pattern valuation and dynamics are performed using FRAGSTATS (3.3 Version) and GIS soft-wares (ArcGIS,MapGIS,ArcVIEW (Attila,Patch Analyst extensions)). The main subjects of this study includes: 1, Analysis of local landscape neighborhood relationships and their changes; 2, Urban and suburb landscape pattern analysis using wavelet method; 3, mountainous area landscape vertical differentiation at watershed level; 4, Impact of roads on construction land and its changes at town level; 5, road optimization from vegetation protection perspective in mountainous area. Conclusions are as follows:1. The neighborhood relationship between construction land and grass land is small, and from 1987 to 2003 it increased quickly, because under the environment of intensification of cultivated land protecting policies, the increase of construction land was based on the invasion of grassland other than cultivated land. In order to avoid and alleviate the impact of construction land on grassland, some measures should be carried out to control construction land scale and restrictions to human activity interferences on local landscape pattern.2. Northeastern part of Qixia urban area is comprised of grassland and construction land. Landscape nearby are impacted on by topology, three landscape types (cultivated land, orchard and woodland) are manifested on smaller scales, whereas on larger scales impacts on landscape can be found from mountain aspects. 3. On landscape type scale, construction land and water body dominate both in plain (0-6°) and low areas, and manifest high aggregation. In steep (>15°) and high (>208m) areas, unused land and grassland are two dominant landscape types, because the corresponding terrain, slope and other impact factors are adverse for the existence and development of other landscape types. Areas near 228m elevation contour are the ecotones of landscapes that driven by human forces and natural forces, which embrace largest patch number and most intricate patch shapes.4. Comprehensive consideration is necessary for ecological protectors and planners, when they design roads, in order to avoid negative impacts. Functions of roads should be delineated clearly and corresponding criteria should be established according to the specific road functions. This paper takes county, town and specific object as study scales, on the principle of landscape ecology, using geographic information system (GIS), remote sensing (RS) and spatial analysis methods, evaluated landscape patterns and dynamics in Qixia City, which can provide scientific ideology and theories for regional sustainable development and natural resource distribution optimization.
