Artemia sinica belongs to Phylum Arthropoda, Class Crustacea, Subclass Branchiopoda, Order Anostaca, Family Artemiidae and Genus Artemia. It lives in the high-salt salt lakes and salterns which exist in Shanxi, Tibet, Xinjiang, Qinghai and Inner Mongolia. In the last few years, along with the completion of the geome project,as a milestone, has provided a broader platform for life science. However, biodiversity and complexity suggests that staying on information of genome is still far away from explanntion of mechanism of life.As the final product of most genes, proteins are the functional units in the hierarchical regulation cascade of genes.Intensive study on proteins is the requirement of further understanding of the mechanisms of lives. The proteomics research of Artemia sinica has gradually become one important post-genome research focus. In establishing the proteomic research platform of Artemia sinica,we investigate protein components of the Artemia sinica,as will help people understand Artemia sinica on protein level. Using two-dimensional gel electrophoresis(2-DE) and image analysis system ,the changes of 2-DE pattern of protein from different stages of embryo of Artemia sinica were investigated and analyzed. A total of 97specific protein spots were acquired by image analysis software.Ten specific expressed proteins were recognized as described previously except that peptide fragments were indentified by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time of flight mass spectrometry.Peptide mass mapping of the selected spots led to the identification of ten proteins specific expressed in Artemia sinica proteins, among of which nine spots were up-regulated and one spots were down-regulated. Nine proteins were identified using MALDI-TOF-MS.All of the indentified proteins were classified mainly into four categories:(a)heat-shock protein;(b)factors;(c)enzymes;(d)other proteins. There were existed differentially protein expression in embryo of Artemia sinica during development process. The specific protein might be related to embryo development.
