The Rufous-backed Shrike(Lanius schach) belong to Laniidae Passeriformes. It is one of the species which have color polymorphism. They are widely distributed in China, and there are different morphs coexist in some regions, such as brown morph, black morph, the color morph between brown and black and so on.Color polymorphism is meaningful in understanding the heredity, variation and evolution of species, but there is rare report about color polymorphism in china. In order to study the color polymorphism of L.schach,we carried out the comparison research on ecology of dark morph and brown morph of L.schach, especially on the population status,nest-site selection, growth breeding community structure of birds,to explore the classification position of dark morph..The main results were as following:1.Brown morph are widely distributed and have larger population than black morph and the later mostly distributed near seaside area but never found in mountainous area.A new color morph, which is different from black morph by having white flight feather, was identified and only recorded in Haifeng. There are significant difference between two types on different habitat.Population density of brown morph decline by agroforestry (18.53±2.45/km~2),aqua-cultural pond(10.65±1.35/km~2),rice farm(2.00±0.05 /km~2), forest(1±0.25/km~2).Population density of black morph decline by agroforestry(8.43±1.07/km~2),aqua-cultural pond(3.00±0.40/km~2),rice farm(0.10±0.05 /km~2),forest(0).2.Both colors types of L.schach breeded synchronize from May to June. There are no significant difference on each figure of site selection between two types.3.There are no significant differences on egg figures between two types(P>0.05). The growth of the body mass, wing length and other morphological characters before 15-day-old nestling could well be described by the Logistic equation. There are no significant differences on the body morphological characters of the 14-day-old nestlings, but significant difference on asymptotic value of the ninth primary.4.The experiments of interchanging their eggs and nestlings showed that during the process of sitting and fostering, the same period eggs and nestlings between two color morphs were accepted, but different period eggs were rejected.Nestling behaviors did not differ between the nestlings from different patterns. We concluded that black morph is not an independent species but one color morph of L.schach.5.The bird community structure in the Reserve is complicated and many species were rare.146 species are recorded from 2007 to 2008.Among them, winter migrant birds, resident and summer migrant are account for 44.83%,53.10%,2.07%respectively.
