As the development of precision agriculture, the requirement of Agricultural robot for navigation precision is higher and higher. There is selling high precision GPS facilities on market, but the price is too high to use the high-price GPS facilities in agricultural production. This dissertation researches on low-cost GPS navigation for agricultural robot. This study aims to improve the reliability and accuracy of the positioning system, at the same time, reduce the cost. Consequently it will give an impetus the development of digital agriculture. The major function of agricultural robot navigation system proposed in this paper is to receive the orientation and navigation signals from satellites and base station by the GPS receiver loaded on the mobile station, then transfer the differential signals to the computer by serial communication. The navigation information be received and displayed real-time on the electronic map by the software VC++ and MapObjects. It makes it a reality to carry out real-time and continuous supervision and display of the precise locality, moving track, velocity and direction of vehicles, and is indispensable to realize precision agriculture. The all scheme, various functional modules and realization technology of agricultural robot navigation system are proposed in this dissertation. The hardware and software component of the system are researched. This dissertation introduces the technologies in detail GPS, information acquisition and the method of making electronic map for GPS navigation. The methods to conduct communication by connecting computer and GPS receiver is further discussed, and programs for serial communication interface software to receive via GPS receiver real-time information conforming NMEA-0183 standard is designed. This dissertation develops the making new method of electronic map through the groupware GIS development tool named MapObjects developed by ESRI Company.
