An Analysis On Quine's Topics Of Indeterminacy

Quine mentioned: "Three of indeterminacy have figured conspicuously in my writings: indeterminacy of translation, inscrutability of reference and indetermination of scientific theory. Each of the three presupposes a distinctive further topic with concerns of its own. The topic presupposed by translation is stimulation. The topic presupposed by the inscrutability of reference is reification. The topic presupposed by the indetermination of science is empirical content. A further topic still, pursuant on the indetermination of science, is truth of empirically equivalent theories. "The indeterminacy of translation is discussed in detail by Quine; the philosophy value of the issue is paid immediate attention to by the scholars and has generated considerable discussion, because of its novel example. We believe that the three topics of indeterminacy are closely linked so that we must explore them together. This paper attempts to analyze the three topics of indeterminacy further, based on the analyzing of its meaning as the starting point and explores its philosophical root for clues.Apart from the introduction and conclusion, this paper consists of four parts. The first part is about the two concepts of certainty and uncertainty and the research conditions of them as well, which, just like the introduction, is also the background knowledge. The second part interprets the three of indeterminacy in details on the content, links and theoretical significance. The third part is the detailed inspection and analysis of the three subjects, which are put entirely into Quine's system of philosophy, investigating the relation between the subject of indeterminacy and Naturalism, Ontology-Relative, Holism, and so on, thus" pursuing the philosophy origin of the theoretical system of Quine. Part IV, jumping out of Quine's perspective, discusses the various views on the indeterminacy from different theoretical perspectives and the handling of uncertain problems in practice, and thus clarifies the theoretical impact and value of indeterminacy.In this paper, the innovation is the system interpretation of the three topics of indeterminacy originally and faithfully. While writing the paper, we try to seek novel interpretation and innovative theories, however, as an assessment paper, objectively there are many constrains of theoretical innovation. Furthermore, the author's custody is limited, the development of the theory and the lack of innovation of the paper is one of the shortcomings. Nevertheless, we believe that there are our own thoughts in the analysis, and there is a concentrated attempt in part four.
