90% damage comes from waves in the sea, especially from typhoon wave. The Taiwan Strait area is frequently affected by tropical storms and typhoons. Typhoon surge disaster is serious in this area. Wave observation needs a lot of money, time, and can't obtain the wave data on the whole area. Therefore numerical calculation becomes the effective method to research wave. In recent years, with the application of the computer software and hardware technology, numerical calculation to research wave becomes the main method.Adopting the international advanced third-generation wave model——SWAN, which considers wind input, whitecapping dissipation, wave breaking induced by depth, bottom friction and nonlinear wave-wave interaction simulate the wave fields of Taiwan Strait and Xiamen Bay. Some experiments are designed to study tide and different wind directions'effects on the wave growth and propagation. Simulation results indicate that SWAN is suitable for shallow water.Significant wave heights are respectively calculated by"Haida"method and SWAN.Analysis results indicate that SWAN model in the harbor engineering calculations is feasible. Finally, the wave fields of the 0604 Typhoon"Bilis"and 9914 Typhoon"Dan"in Taiwan Strait and Xiamen Bay have been simulated by SWAN. The results indicate that the distribution of wave directions and wave heights vary with the center of typhoon moving. And the propagation directions of typhoon waves have good correlation with the wind directions. In this paper, by the simulations of typhoon in Taiwan Strait and Xiamen Bay, we have certain knowledge of the wave fields during typhoon in Taiwan Strait and nearby, which can provide some reference for modeling study, wave forecast, measures against natural disasters etc. in this area.
