Analysis And Design Of Web GIS Based On XML

As the popularization and development of personal computers and the Internet, Web GIS. the Geographic Information System which is built based on Internet/Intranet is becoming the main research content on the fields of GIS. At the same time, the characteristic of GIS turns out that Web GIS is the most ideal means of expressing it. Web GIS also has some advantages compared with other GIS system.Firstly, this paper introduces the traits and requirements of a Web GIS system, analyzes the primary problems in face of Web GIS. After detailed discussion of the application specification of extensible Markup Language (XML) and the architecture of multi-tier distributed applications, this paper integrates XML into distributed applications, applies XML as a general data exchange format in three-tier C/S structure and advances a solution of a Web GIS system based on XML. This project can realize the storage, share, transfer and presentation of spatial data, which make up the shortage of some traditional Web GIS system.Finally, this paper focuses on the spatial data server, the web server and the client to expatiate how to build the system. These methods could be the reference for a practical system.
