| This article, taking Wuhai for example, using Ggeographic information system and Remote sensing technique, analyzes the space-time pattern of land use change using Landsat TM images of 1990,1998, 2005.The author calculates landscape indicators using FRAGCSTATS, which can make quantitative analysis of structure compose and spatial-time pattern of land use.Then it calculates change of land use type using transfer matrix, through citing dynamic degree and land use degree. Finally it analyses the relationship between vegetational cover and land use type by calculating NDVI. Accordingly, it can give a systemic analysis and expatiation to the spatial-time pattern of land use changes in the study area, and give some suggestions to the existing problems of land use.The main results and conclusions are as following:· The distribution of land use pattern becomes more and more even. The area difference of patch becomes smaller gradually. The status of the land use type which is in ascendant reduces gradually. The impact of human beings on landscape is growing. All of the land use type area has increased, except the area of desertification grassland has a heavy decrease.· Wuhai was established because of mining. Mining industry is the economy cornerstones of Wuhai. It has a high speed development during the study period; It changed more frequence than other lands use type. It also brings some problems, such as serious grassland deterioration.· Agriculture and forestry developed quickly along with the economy development But due to droughty climate and little rainfall, crop growing mainly relies on yellow river Irrigation.In the plain, the area of plantation and woodland increased, but in another side, over plowing and over cutting leads to water table raise, saline and alkaline land increase and notation increase.· The vegetational cover has changed greatly during the study period. The opposite sides of Yellow river are the main region of increasing vegetational cover, which are farmland and forest. Mining is the main land use type of decreasing vegetational cover. Around the mine, vegetational cover and distance between vegetation and mine has a direct proportion. The smaller the distance is, the lower the degree of vegetational cover is. Vice versa.· Human beings has done a great impact on land use type, when the economy development rapidly. The environment suffered griverous destroy from 1990 to 1998, area of nudation and surrounding buildings increased. During this period, Wuhai was under a staus of adjustment. And from 1998 to 2005, Wuhai had achieved a balanced development between environment and economy, which was in a period of development. As a whole, the land use degree in Wuhai is medium, it under a status between extensive land use and intensive land use.In a word, the change of land use are mainly performed as: hungriness grassland decrease, patches fragmentation, area of inhabitant and mining increase, environment demolish, area of farmland and forest increase, land use dispersed. The leading factors are fast increased population; quickly expand of resident land, rapid economy development. Whereas the change of use land, sustainable development based on harmony between economy development and environment protection.
