With the accomplishment of the sequencing stage of the Human Genome Project (HGP) and the development of bioinformatics, a large amount of genome data has been achieved. Nowadays, the research of gene regulation and expression has gotten more and more attention. The regulation on gene transcription level is one of the most important parts. Also, the rapid development of gene chip technology makes it realizable to inspect the gene transcription level cosmically and analyze the correlation of genes.To establish a comprehensive and systemic information platform of gene regulation, we analyze the famous international biological databases such as GeneBank, Transfac, Epd, Scpd and dbSNP etc. We have accomplished the design of GRID, the acquiring and syncretizing of data, the complex query, visualization and database administration. Although its data source comes from those famous biological databases, we do not import these data to GRID simply. We make a lot of work on analyzing and processing these data and syncretize them into the GRID system.The gene regulation data are the main body of GRID and they include all relating regulation information of transcription. As saying in data type, they mainly include promoter, gene, element, factor, element, consensus, matrix, downstream and SNP data. All these data have multiple and organic relationship. We also give some links to other relative database.GRID not only contains all kinds of regulation data but also accomplish the analyses and fusion of these data. We also design the new tables and append the new data types. Totally, GRID is a system of keeping develops. Besides these, we must administrate all users of database and we also need adjust the physical structure of database so that it can work more effective.After accomplishing the design of GRID, it is a very important work to import all kinds of data to database. Because it has high continuity in these courses, for example, if a piece of data is imported into database falsely it will make all the following data are imported falsely; we must guarantee the correctness and security of these data. We accomplish a new safe and exact import and update program.Based on these data in GRID, we develop complex web query function. We also analyze the SNP data and accomplish the visualization of these correlated data. These visualizations make users have an intuitionistic realizing of this information. The users also make a next query, download, analyses and get other regulation information according their needs. We advance a new method visualization which saves the resource of server and is more rapid and safer by using Servlet+Applet.GRID system is developed by some advanced IT tools. It use Oracle product as DBMS, and Java/Jsp to finish web application. These tools are not only powerful but also compatible, so GRID can run on both Windows and UNIX platforms.In summary, GRID database system is a gene regulation information database system by our own design. It is not a mirror of any international gene database, but such a system as which can download and update various types of gene regulation information data. It has friendly user interface, and can realize data relationship query in DBMS. Furthermore, GRID can also do some data visualization and analysis work.
