The tide response and tide wave distortion are analyzed in Yueqing Bay using a set of measurement data. The result shows. The tidal deviation is relatively big and increases gradually from the mouth to the head of the bay.Its main dynamic mechanism is the tidal co-oscillation which exists in the bay. The results also shows that the semidiurnal tidal component propagated from open sea is amplified in the Yueqing bay the tide and tidal currents are no long symmetrical, because of the M4 component generation and their fast growth.A model was used in the paper. First, the region tidal current field was calculated and by comparing with the matched monitoring data ,it proved that the result of calculation tallied well with the fact.Using the above information , three groups of experiments were done here to study the tidal flat effect on the M4, M2 and the tidal asymmetry in the bay.The results show that the tidal flat in the area between Dongshantou and the mouth abating the M4 growth as well as the tidal asymmetry, whereas the tidal flat from Dongshantou to the head amplifying the amplitude of M4 component. It is also approved that there are likely to be the M4 tide co-oscillation in the Yueqing bay.
