The waters near Xiamen are wide and shallow. A two-dimensional shallow flow equation is used to describe the tidal currents, and a Eulerian-Lagrangian semi-implicit finite difference method which was introduced by V. Cassulli is applied to simulate the current field in this area. With the Eulerian-Lagrangian interpolation formulation, this method has the advantages of easy solving and good stability. To improve the precision in simulation, a nested grid is used in Tongan water area and Xiamen west waters. Due to the significant area of flood and desiccation, a variable boundary technology is used. The computed results match well with the observations. Then two instances are simulated separately, one with the M2,S2 constituent only, the other with ten major constituents including M2,S2. And linear interpolation and Lagrange interpolation are used in the computations to analysis the influence of the nested grid and boundary condition.
